چکیده
Aim of the study: To estimate fresh and basic density values Douglas fir deadwood for five decay classes used in National Forest Inventories (NFIs).
Area Rincine forest Tuscany region (Italy).
Material methods: 140 samples (28 each class; 14 which were collected summer winter) analysed laboratory. The weighed fresh, then placed oven 3 days at 60°C. Afterwards dried. laboratory data to moisture content (%), by class.
 Main results: results showed that trend basal decreased from 1st 5th class (0.43 g cm-3, 0.39 0.37 0.29 cm-3 0.20 cm-3). An average 0.34 could be future studies concerning estimation C-stock deadwood.
Research highlights: all lying is influenced season (winter vs. summer) consistent with local climate regime.

Deriving Fuel Mass by Size Class in Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) Using Terrestrial Laser Scanning
Requirements for describing coniferous forests are changing in response to wildfire concerns, bio-energy needs, and climate change interests. At the same time, technology advancements are transforming how forest properties can be measured. Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) is yielding promising results for measuring tree biomass parameters that, historically, have required costly destructive sam...
متن کاملIncorporating genetic variation into a model of budburst phenology of coast Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menziesii)
Models to predict budburst and other phenological events in plants are needed to forecast how climate change may impact ecosystems and for the development of mitigation strategies. Differences among genotypes are important to predicting phenological events in species that show strong clinal variation in adaptive traits. We present a model that incorporates the effects of temperature and differe...
متن کاملEffects of Harvesting Systems and Bole Moisture Loss on Weight Scaling of Douglas-Fir Sawlogs (Pseudotsuga Menziesii var. glauca Franco)
Characterizing the moisture loss from felled trees is essential for determining weight-to-volume (W-V) relationships in softwood sawlogs. Several factors affect moisture loss, but research to quantify the effects of bole size and harvest method is limited. This study was designed to test whether bole size, harvest method, environmental factors, and the associated changes in stem moisture conten...
متن کاملAssociation genetics of coastal Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menziesii, Pinaceae). I. Cold-hardiness related traits.
Adaptation to cold is one of the greatest challenges to forest trees. This process is highly synchronized with environmental cues relating to photoperiod and temperature. Here, we use a candidate gene-based approach to search for genetic associations between 384 single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers from 117 candidate genes and 21 cold-hardiness related traits. A general linear model app...
متن کاملEffects of Cattle Grazing on Birds in Interior Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) Forests of British Columbia
Livestock grazing is a dominant land use across North America and although the effects of grazing on birds have been studied in grassland, shrubland, and riparian habitats, studies of the effects in forests are rare. We investigated the effects of cattle grazing in forests on vegetation, the relationships between vegetation characteristics and the abundance of foraging and nesting guilds of bir...
